Freemium Games: The Essence of Success with Mobile Game Development

Mobile Game Development

“The essence of success is that it is never necessary to think of a new idea oneself. It is far better to wait until somebody else does it, and then to copy him in every detail, except his mistakes.”

Just like the above mentioned quote from Aubrey Menen, we can take the inspiration from the existing iOS apps that are already successful for our own mobile game development projects. Now doing so will require deep digging into the store or you can again use the insight of someone who did so.

And fortunately you don’t have to do much except considering the below mentioned insights and statistics:

  • 93 per cent of the 30 top grossing games have In-App Purchase (IAP) feature, i.e. the most common attribute in the top 30 highest grossing mobile games on Apple App Store is that they are “Freemium – Apps or Games that are free but have in-app purchase feature to unlock advanced stages or buy additional features, functionality, virtual goods, etc.”
  • 53 per cent of the 30 top grossing games have 10 or more In-App Purchases (IAPs)
  • 40 per cent of the 30 top grossing games have between 4 and 7 used in app purchases.
  • 50 per cent of the 30 top grossing games have their lowest in app purchase $1.99 or greater

To gain more insights and stats you can follow the analysis of the 30 top grossing mobile games and IAPs in iTunes by Chocolate Lab Apps.
